How To Download Files From The Internet
We will use McAfee which is a virus control program as the example:
I have selected the Update Virus Scan (above) which is circled. Put your mouse on that line and let click. That will bring you to another screen (see below):
Select the file you want (I selected Download virus DAT file - above) by putting the mouse on the line and left clicking
As you can see from above, I have now selected Download for the 4.x engine.
Now, it is time to click on "Download now" as you can see from above.
As you can see from the screen above, you have to decide if you want to save the file or open it immediately. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, click the circle that says "Save theis program to disk:
See the above screen -- you now have to decide where you want to put the file -- only you can decide this, however, I would guess that most of the time you will select the C drive and put it into the "My Documents" file. No matter which you select, please remember where you have it because we will need the file again. Let me show you how to select the drive:
Can you see the arrow head that has been circled? You click on that and it brings down a list of all of your drives. You click on the drive you want and then click on the folder you want. Now, getting back to the download:
The file is now downloading. While you are waiting for it to finish, write down the name of the file. You can see the name of the file on this screen -- it is under the world which has "saving" under that and then "4043update.exe". Now, wait until it is finished. You can tell when it is finished by the paper no longer flying across the screen the line is all the way across the screen. Now, click on "Close".
I now want you to click on the "Start" button on the bottom of the screen and then click on "Run":
Remember I told you when the file was downloading the write down the name of the file -- this is where you will type in the name of the file -- as it is in the above example. Now, click on the "OK" button.
A box will come up and ask if you want to continue and you are to click "YES", just like above.
Once the box in the middle is finished with its extraction, the box will be gone. Sometimes you may get a box message as shown below:
Click "NEXT" and you should be finished.
Not all downloads are exactly the same. The above examples should give you a clear idea of the download process which is to get the file from the internet, download the file to your computer and then extract or run the file so it completes its functions.
